India young batter Ruturaj Gaikwad was set to join Yorkshire for the last part of the County Championship 2025 season. He had agreed to play five matches, starting with the clash against defending champions Surrey on July 22 at Scarborough.
However, the 28-year-old withdrew from the deal earlier this week, citing personal reasons, according to a statement from the club. Gaikwad was due to make his debut against Surrey on Tuesday.
"Unfortunately Gaikwad's not coming now for personal reasons," Anthony McGrath, Yorkshire head coach, said. "We're not going to have him for Scarborough or for the rest of the season. So that's disappointing.
Yorkshire Turns To Imam-ul-Haq After Gaikwad Exit
After Gaikwad’s sudden exit, Yorkshire are now reportedly in talks with Pakistan star opener Imam-ul-Haq as a replacement. This update comes from thecricketer.com, which mentioned that Yorkshire are actively looking to fill the gap left by the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain.
Notably, Imam-ul-Haq is no stranger to English county cricket. He previously played for Somerset in 2022, joining them for the final four matches to help the team avoid relegation.
