Bangladesh might soon be part of an exciting tri-nation T20I series with cricket giants Australia and Pakistan in February 2026. This news has been reportedly confirmed by a source within the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), speaking to Cricfrenzy.

After vanishing into thin air, the tri-nation series is slowly making its way back into international cricket. Recently, Zimbabwe, New Zealand, and South Africa featured in a similar-format bilateral series, raising excitement amongst cricket fans.

Bangladesh Likely To Agree To Tri-Nation Series With Australia

According to Cricfrenzy, Bangladesh will likely join Australia and Pakistan in a tri-nation T20I series in February 2026. Australia are already scheduled to tour Pakistan during that period for a three-match T20I series.

Now, both the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Cricket Australia (CA) are exploring the idea of turning the bilateral series into a tri-nation tournament, with Bangladesh joining as the third team.

The reason behind this potential series is preparation for the 2026 T20 World Cup, which will be held in India and Sri Lanka during February-March. Though there hasn’t been an official proposal yet, informal talks have taken place.

The PCB has reportedly shown interest in including Bangladesh due to stronger ties between the two cricket boards in recent times. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi is in Bangladesh for the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Annual General Meeting, which will be held on July 24-25. He is expected to meet BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul to discuss the tri-series further.

If the plan moves ahead, the tournament format could include each team playing two matches against the others, followed by a final between the top two teams. This would result in a total of seven matches.

CA is known for arranging tours to the subcontinent before big ICC events. For instance, they played a T20I series against Bangladesh prior to the 2021 T20 World Cup and a Sri Lanka tour prior to the 2025 Champions Trophy.
