India recorded a five-wicket win over England in the fourth Test match on Monday and took an unassailable 3-1 lead in the five-match series. Skipper Rohit Sharma, once again, led from the front and helped India continue its dominance in Test cricket at home.

With that win, India also became the first country to win a Test series against England since the arrival of Bazball under Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum. Apart from leading India to win the fourth Test, Indian captain Rohit Sharma also scripted an array of individual scores.

In pursuit of a 192-run target, Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal set the foundation with an 84-run partnership for the opening wicket. The Indian captain played a crucial knock of 55 runs in 81 balls, including five fours and one six.

Notably, it was Rohit Sharma’s highest score in the fourth innings of a Test match. Prior to that, he only had one 50-plus score to his name in the fourth innings – 52 scored against Australia in the Sydney Test in 2021.

Rohit Sharma, in fact, is the only captain in the last 21 years to score a fifty-plus score in a successful fourth-innings run-chase. Overall, he is now only the third Indian captain to have recorded a 50-plus score in the fourth innings of a successful run-chase.

Furthermore, Rohit Sharma’s 55 is the third-highest by an Indian captain in the fourth innings of a successful run-chase. Saurav Ganguly top the list, having played a 98-run knock against Sri Lanka in 2001. The southpaw also played a crucial 65-run knock in the fourth innings of a successful run chase against Zimbabwe in 2000.

In the ongoing Test series against England, the Indian skipper has racked up 297 runs in four matches at 37.12.
