In a bid to prepare for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024, New Zealand and Pakistan have decided to play a five-match T20I series in Pakistan between 13th to 24th April 2024.

However, a lot of New Zealand’s prominent players might not be available in the series as they could be plying their trade for their respective franchises in the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League.

The BCCI has released a partial schedule for the 2024 season, during which 21 matches will be played. The fixtures for the remaining games will be announced in due course.

New Zealand players are expected be available during this window and, thus, would miss out on the Pakistan tour.

Notably, a total of eight New Zealand players have been roped in by different franchises for the upcoming season- Devon Conway (Chennai Super Kings), Daryl Mitchell (CSK), Rachin Ravindra (CSK), Mitchell Santner (CSK), Kane Williamson (Gujarat Titans), Lockie Ferguson (Royal Challengers Bangalore), Trent Boult (Rajasthan Royals), Glenn Phillips (Sunrisers Hyderabad).

It is worth mentioning that last year as well, during the April-May window, the New Zealand Cricket Team travelled Pakistan to play five T20Is and as many ODIs. The Blackcaps had to send a second-string team as most of their senior players went to play the Indian Premier League.

Despite that, New Zealand levelled the T20I series 2-2 but lost the ODIs by a 4-1 margin. New Zealand and Pakistan last played against each other in a five-match T20I series between 12th January to 21st January 2024. New Zealand crushed Pakistan with a 4-1 victory at home.

Meanwhile, all the teams are looking to finalize their squads for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. The marque tournament get underway with a clash between Canada and USA on 1st of June 2024.The final of the 2024 World Cup is scheduled to be played on 29th June in Barbados.
