Rishabh Pant is having a Test match to remember, as the southpaw slammed his eighth Test century on Day 4 of the first Test at Headingley. It was a special moment for the 27-year-old, who became the first-ever Indian wicketkeeper to score twin centuries in a Test match.

To commemorate the occasion, a special celebration was required—and Pant did not disappoint. After reaching his ton, Rishabh took a deep breath and thanked God for the moment.

Pant And Sunny G Share A Sweet Moment After Record Ton

He then pulled out a unique celebration, and the camera panned to Sunil Gavaskar, who stood outside the media box watching Pant reach his historic century.

It was a heartwarming moment between the two, especially considering their recent history: Gavaskar had scolded Pant for playing reckless cricket in Australia. This time, Sunny G was elated after the hundred and even asked the 27-year-old to do a somersault.

However, Pant respectfully declined Gavaskar’s request, gesturing that he would oblige with a somersault next time. Watch celebration here.

What Did Rishabh Pant’s Celebration Signify?

Following his century, Pant pulled out England footballer Dele Alli’s famous ‘Okay’ celebration. Notably, the former Tottenham star first used this celebration in 2018, and it became a trend on social media.

Interestingly, before the start of the second innings, Pant had hinted that he would opt for a different celebration. Speaking to Cheteshwar Pujara, Pant stated that he had two or three celebrations in mind but ultimately chose a somersault in the first innings.

Pant Reacts to Sunny G’s Remark

The love-hate relationship between Rishabh and the Little Master began during the 2024 Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT), when Pant played a string of poor shots and Gavaskar scolded him on air with his now-famous “Stupid, stupid” remarks.

However, the India legend had a change of heart in the ongoing Test. When Pant scored a century in the first innings, Gavaskar took a 360° turn, praising him with a “Superb, superb, superb” remark.

Pant broke his silence on the praise, remarking that he had been looking to turn his setbacks into comebacks for a long time.
