Century And A Fifty In 1st Test! Pant Reaches New Heights After Special Knock In Headingley

In the ongoing first Test between India and England at Headingley, Rishabh Pant has scripted history as the 27-year-old completed 1,000 runs against the Three Lions. Rishabh Pant walked to bat when India were 92/3 and stitched a crucial partnership with KL Rahul. The southpaw reached his fifty off 83 balls, marking his fifth consecutive fifty-plus score in England.

Rishabh Pant Completes 1000 Runs In England

With this feat, Pant also completed 1,000 runs in England across formats. After India, England has been Pant’s favourite opponent, with 1,031 runs in 27 innings at an average of 41.24. 

The list of achievements does not end there. The India wicketkeeper-batter also became the first visiting keeper-batter to score a century and a fifty in the same match twice. Pant first achieved this feat in 2022 when India toured England.

Rishabh Pant Eyes History With a Century

Now, Pant is eyeing another massive milestone as he nears a century. If he reaches three figures, it will be his second consecutive century in the match. Notably, Rishabh already scored a ton in the first innings, amassing 134 (178) with 12 fours and six sixes.

If he scores a century in the second innings, he will become the first Indian wicketkeeper to achieve centuries in both innings of a Test match. The left-handed batter will also become the leading run-getter among visiting keeper-batters in England.

At the time of writing, India are 225/3, with Pant batting on 76 (96) and KL Rahul also nearing his century.

Pant Shifts Gears To India Sit Comfortably

Rishabh Pant was playing comfortably and proper cricketing shots in the first-half of Day 4 as he realised the importance of his wicket. Interestingly, Pant even scolded himself for playing a few reckless shots.

Although, as soon as the 27-year-old reached his fifty, he shifted gears and hit boundaries across the park and quickly moved into the 70s.
