After rain interrupted play on day 2 and 3, the action resumed on Monday, September 30. Bangladesh came to bat with a score of 107/3. It was a great day with the bat for Mominul Haque as he slammed a stunning century. However, the Indian bowlers were also on fire and restricted The Tigers to 233 runs.

Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers for his three-wicket haul. Meanwhile, Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep and R Ashwin took two wickets each. Talking about Ashwin, the right-arm off-spinner got rid of skipper Najmul Shanto and the dangerous man Shakib Al Hasan.

R Ashwin Scripts History In WTC

With the two wickets, Ashwin completed 50 wickets in this WTC cycle and scripted history as he became the first bowler in the world to take 50+ wickets in all three editions of the World Test Championship.

Ashwin scripted this feat with his second wicket when he got rid of Shakib on the last ball of the 56th over. The off-spinner took the wicket, but credit goes to Mohammed Siraj, who ran backwards and took an amazing catch that is one to remember for the ages.

Ashwin Beat Lyon, Southee For This Feat

Ashwin beat the likes of Nathan Lyon and Tim Southee to become the first bowler with 50+ wickets in all three WTC formats, as the other two bowlers also have 50+ wickets in the first two WTC cycles.

Ashwin, who is the second-leading wicket-taker in WTC history with 182 wickets in 37 matches, took 71 wickets in 14 matches of the 2019-21 WTC cycle.

In the 2021–23 edition, he got rid of 61 batters in 13 matches, and in the ongoing cycle, he has picked up 50 wickets in 10 matches. Ashwin needs just six more wickets to break Lyon’s record of 187 dismissals and become the leading wicket-taker in WTC history.
