On Saturday, September 28, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against Bangladesh starting on October 6. The squad included several new faces, including pace-sensation Mayank Yadav.
Following a blistering start to his IPL career in the 2024 edition with Lucknow Super Giants, Yadav has been in the news, with several pundits backing the right-arm seamer to play international cricket. After multiple injuries set-backs, the 22-year-old finally earned his maiden India call-up.
The internet and cricketing fraternity is happy with Yadav's name in the squad for Bangladesh T20Is, but his selection can wreak trouble for Lucknow Super Giants.
Mayank Yadav's India Selection: A Sign Of Concern For LSG
On Saturday, September 28, the BCCI also announced the new retention policy for the upcoming IPL auctions and made significant changes. The retentions have gone up to six from four. Thus, Yadav, who has the potential to become one of the best bowlers in the world, would definitely be on LSG's radar in the retention list for the upcoming mega-auction as the board has kept a deadline of October 31.
As of now, LSG can easily attain Yadav's services for four crores by retaining him as an uncapped player. According to the new rules, a team can retain six players and must include an uncapped star.
However, things would be different if Yadav gets to play in one of the three T20I matches against Bangladesh as the right-arm seamer would then be placed in the capped category of players. If Yadav makes his debut against Bangladesh, LSG would have to pay a minimum of seven extra crores to retain Mayank. Here is the list of price slabs based on retentions for capped players.
- 1st retention - 18cr.
- 2nd Retention - 14cr.
- 3rd Retention - 11cr.
- 4th Retention - 18cr.
- 5th Retention - 14cr.
A Similar Case For Nitish Reddy and Harshit Rana
Other than Mayank Yadav, KKR and SRH are also sweating hard as Nitish Reddy and Harshit Rana are key uncapped players for their respective franchises. Now the two star players are named in the squad and are likely to make their debut. A similar thing would occur with KKR and SRH where they would be forced to pay extra to retain these two budding cricketers.
