[ROI (1st innings): 289/4 (79); Abhimanyu Easwaran 151*, Ishan Kishan 38; Mohit Avasthi 2/66 trail by 248 runs Vs Mumbai (1st innings): 537; Sarfaraz Khan 222*, Ajinkya Rahane 97; Mukesh Kumar 5/110]

Riding on Abhimanyu Easwaran's magnificent century, the Rest Of India gave Mumbai a fitting reply on day three of the ongoing Irani Trophy encounter at Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. After Sarfaraz Khan's marathon double ton powered Mumbai to a whopping 537-run total in their first innings, ROI finished the day with 289 runs on the board, losing four crucial wickets.

Mukesh Kumar Claims A Fifer Before ROI Lose An Early Wicket

Mumbai resumed their first innings on the third day, with the scoreboard reading 536 for nine. However, ace seamer Mukesh Kumar took a little time to dismiss Mohammad Juned Khan, completing his five-wicket haul in this process. After the Ranji Trophy Champions were bowled out for 537, Rest Of India had a shaky start to their innings, losing skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad cheaply. Before getting out, the stylish batter could contribute only nine runs to his team's tally.

Abhimanyu Easwaran Stands Tall To Bail ROI Out Of Trouble

The in-form Abhimanyu Easwaran came to ROI's rescue, stitching a valuable 87-run stand with the reliable B Sai Sudharsan. However, Tanush Kotian drew the second blood for Mumbai, getting rid of Sudharsan at a crucial juncture of the game.

Devdutt Padikkal and Ishan Kishan failed to convert their starts into impactful knocks, being dismissed for 16 and 38 runs, respectively. However, Easwaran stood firm for ROI, slamming a memorable century and keeping his team alive in the contest. This was Easwaran's third hundred in his previous four First-Class outings as he banged the Indian team selection doors before the New Zealand series.

His valiant knock under pressure saved ROI from embarrassment. However, they still need 49 runs to avoid the follow-on, which will be their primary task when they resume their innings on day 4.
