Abhimanyu Easwaran once again showcased his incredible form by hitting a stunning century during the Irani Cup at the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow on October 3. Facing a massive first-innings score set by Mumbai, Easwaran, playing for the Rest of India, stepped up when it mattered the most.
Opening alongside captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, Easwaran remained steady despite losing his partner early. Gaikwad departed after scoring just 9 runs, falling to Mohammad Juned Khan. But the Bengal opener, unfazed, took control of the innings and kept the scoreboard ticking.
The big moment came in the 43rd over when Mohit Avasthi bowled a fuller-length delivery outside off. The Bengal batter got an outside edge, and the ball raced away to the third man boundary, sealing his century with a four. He reached his hundred in just 117 balls, a testament to his excellent form and determination.
Abhimanyu Easwaran Eyes On Border-Gavaskar Trophy
Abhimanyu Easwaran’s timely century serves as a reminder of his skill, especially as selectors begin preparing the Indian Test squad for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia, which starts in November. His consistent performance puts him on the radar as a potential player to watch.
Earlier in the day, Mumbai side wrapped up their innings with 537 runs, thanks to Sarfaraz Khan’s unbeaten 222 and Ajinkya Rahane's 97. In reply, the Rest of India made a solid start, reaching 196/3 by tea break with Easwaran and Ishan Kishan at the crease, adding 38 runs together.
