Mukesh Kumar cleaned up Mumbai’s number 11 Mohammad Juned Khan for a duck on the third morning of the Irani Cup 2024 match to complete his eighth five-wicket haul in first-class cricket. Across the first two high-scoring days of the match, the speedster also dismissed the likes of prolific opener Prithvi Shaw and cunning all-rounder Shams Mulani to finish with figures of 5-110 from 30 overs.

Kumar’s industrious spell at Lucknow’s Ekana Stadium continues his uprising with the ball as he aims to get back into India’s Test reckoning in time for the upcoming five-match tour of Australia.

Mumbai resumed its first innings at 536-9 on Day 3 of the 2024 Irani Cup, with double-centurion Sarfaraz Khan still occupying one end of the crease. Within the first few minutes of the morning session, Rest of India fast bowler Mukesh Kumar castled overnight number 11 Mohammad Juned Khan with a peach to halt Mumbai’s batting juggernaut at 537.

The wicket also marked Kumar’s fifth of the innings as he snared industrious figures of 5-110 after toiling away for 30 overs.

Mukesh Kumar started off the match through a quick three-wicket burst with the new ball on Day 1. Claiming his eighth five-wicket haul in first-class cricket, Kumar’s latest spell continues his bowling uprising after he was dropped from the Indian team earlier this year during their home Test series against England.

The speedster also enjoyed a prolific outing for India B at the recently-concluded Duleep Trophy 2024 season, where he snagged 15 wickets in just three matches with two electric four-fers. He also collected eight wickets in a T20I series in Zimbabwe a couple of months ago, and 17 wickets from just 10 matches for the Delhi Capitals franchise in this year’s IPL 2024 season.
