The race for the playoffs in IPL 2024 is intensifying with each passing game, and two teams who are on the wrong side of that race, Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru are all set to go head-to-head in the match 58 at the beautiful HPCA Stadium in Dharamsala.

Punjab Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru both have won just four games out of the 11 played so far, and now need to win all their games and hope that lot of things go their way, if they want to make it to the top four. Let's dive deeper into their performance this season.

PBKS vs RCB: Team Previews

PBKS

Punjab Kings have played some decent cricket this season and have the highest run-chase in the history of IPL to their name. However, their batting is quite volatile with top order failing to deliver more often than not. The fitness of Shikhar Dhawan is still a mystery, and Jonny Bairstow and Rilee Rossouw have only one good knock to show for their efforts.

Prabhsimran Singh has also thrown away his starts while Jitesh Sharma has been disappointing to say the least. The only shining lights have been Shashank Singh and Ashutosh Sharma, but if they don't fire, Punjab Kings end with below-par score, something which happened in the last game where they could muster only 139 against CSK.

Their bowling was quite good in the last match, with Rahul Chahar back at his best, but despite quality bowlers like Rabada, Arshdeep Singh, Harshal Patel and Sam Curran in their ranks, they have not been able to deliver consistent performances. Despite indifferent results, they are expected to go with the same team.

Let's see how they go about their business in this encounter.

RCB

Royal Challengers Bengaluru are on a roll, they are coming into this game on the back of three comprehensive wins. However, they still have only four wins in total and need to continue doing what they have done in the last few games.

Both their batters and bowlers have started to find form, and in the last game they shot down GT for just 147 with Siraj, Yash Dayal and Vijaykumar Vyshak picking two wickets apiece. Swapnil Singh has also shown his usefulness with all-round performances and Faf du Plessis would be hoping that his bowlers deliver another clinical performance.

Talking about Faf, he is also back at his best, and with ever-consistent Virat Kohli along with swashbuckling Will Jacks around him, RCB finally have their top order firing.

Also Rajat Patidar is back in touch, and the only worry is the batting form of Maxwell and Cameron Green. The only win that RCB could manage in their initial eight games came against Punjab Kings, so expect them to come out all guns blazing again.

PBKS vs RCB: HPCA Stadium Pitch Report

HPCA Stadium is generally a good batting deck, but in the last game between Punjab Kings and Chennai Super Kings, the pitch was difficult to bat on and both pacers and spinners enjoyed their time in the middle. However, the boundaries are short and the pitch is expected to be better this time around, so in all possibility, it would be a high-scoring encounter.
