As Dean Elgar, who walked in the middle as a stand-in captain for the injured Temba Bavuma, won the toss and opted to bat at Newlands, Cape Town, India will be in action with the red cherry in hand on Wednesday (January 3) in the second and final Test of the two-match series. 

India suffered a humiliating an innings-and-an-32-run defeat to South Africa in the series opener at SuperSport Park in Centurion, which was also the Boxing Day Test. Hence, the Rohit Sharma-led side would love to stage a dramatic comeback to level things up in this venue. However, considering India had never won a Test match at this venue before, it should be a fascinating contest between the two sides.

Meanwhile, South Africa brought in Lungi Ngidi, Keshav Maharaj, and debutant Tristan Stubbs to replace the injured Bavuma and Gerald Coetzee, as well as Keegan Petersen. For India, Shardul Thakur and R Ashwin have been dropped, as Mukesh Kumar and Ravindra Jadeja made the cut.
