Promising Pakistan seamer Aamer Jamal had a memorable outing with the bat on Wednesday, as he slammed 82 runs off just 97 deliveries on day 1 of the Sydney Test against Australia. Coming in at number nine, Jamal clobbered nine fours and four sixes for his whirlwind knock that helped Pakistan post a respectable total on an eventful day at the iconic SCG. 

Thus, the fast bowler scripted history, registering the highest-ever individual score by a number nine Pakistani batter against Australia across formats.

After opting to bat first, Pakistan had a disastrous start to their innings, losing Abdullah Shafique and debutant Saim Ayub for silver ducks. 

Shan Masood and Babar Azam stitched a brief 35-run stand before Pat Cummins got rid of the latter with a vicious in-swinger. Mohammad Rizwan emerged as Pakistan's wrecker-in-chief with the bat, contributing 88 runs off 103 deliveries before Jamal shell-shocked the hosts with his scintillating stroke play. 

His breezy knock powered Pakistan to 313 in their first innings. In response, Australia were six for no loss at stumps on day 1.
