Team India regained third Test command on Day 3, with Mohammed Siraj and Yashasvi Jaiswal headlining their fightback at the Niranjan Shah Stadium.

Siraj and Kuldeep keep ENG down despite Duckett’s 153

England failed to capitalise on their overnight advantage by losing two quick wickets earlier in the day. For starters, senior man Joe Root became a victim of his own improvisation, with his futile reverse-ramp off Jasprit Bumrah signalling India's fightback into the game.

In the absence of Ravichandran Ashwin, who withdrew from the match owing to a family emergency, Kuldeep Yadav snapped Jonny Bairstow for a duck just a couple of deliveries later in the innings. Yadav also curtailed Ben Duckett's epic at a near run-a-ball 153, as England went into lunch at 290-5 from 61 overs.

Hometown hero Ravindra Jadeja and speed merchant Mohammed Siraj removed well-set English skipper Ben Stokes and wicketkeeper Ben Foakes off successive deliveries before the two Indian bowlers scythed through the visitors' lower-order.

Jadeja and Siraj's collective efforts ensured England lost their final five wickets for just 20 runs, thus handing India a 126-run first-innings lead.

Yashasvi Jaiswal piles on England pain with third ton

With a 126-run lead in the bank, Indian captain and first-innings centurion Rohit Sharma started his second batting recital with confident boundaries off James Anderson and Joe Root. However, his audacious stay was curtailed by a straight one from Root at 19.

Sharma's opening partner, Yashasvi Jaiswal, carried on India's juggernaut alongside number three Shubman Gill for the second wicket. Jaiswal ended up listing his third Test century and his second of the series as he raced to the landmark figure from just 122 balls.

Gill brought up his fifty with a six off Mark Wood in his 155-run partnership with the opener. Jaiswal eventually walked off the field at the stroke of stumps owing to back issues. Rajat Patidar was dismissed by Tom Hartley a while later for a duck before night watchman Kuldeep Yadav survived the remaining few deliveries to see India till 196-2 by the close of play.

Both Gill (65*) and Kuldeep (3*) will resume the second Indian innings on Day 4 with a monumental lead further stretched to 322 runs.
