As premier off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin withdrew his name from the remainder of the Rajkot Test due to a "family medical emergency" ahead of the third day's play on Saturday (February 17), speculations and concerns grew as to why exactly the great cricketer would've departed home in the middle of a game.

Even though the BCCI issued an update on the matter and requested fans and media to respect Ashwin's privacy as he withdrew from the third Test after achieving the special 500 wickets, cricket lovers expressed their worries over the player's family and sought further clearance on the matter.

Why R Ashwin Is Out Of Rajkot Test?

"The BCCI extends its heartfelt support to the champion cricketer and his family. The health and well-being of the players and their loved ones are of utmost importance. The Board requests respect for the privacy of Ashwin and his family as they navigate through this challenging time," the BCCI statement said.

Amidst the noise, however, BCCI apex council vice-president and someone who has over the years formed a strong bond with players and taken care of their concerns, Rajeev Shukla disclosed that Ashwin's mother is currently undergoing a bout with illness and that is why the cricketer decided to return home.

"Wishing speedy recovery of mother of @ashwinravi99. He has to rush and leave Rajkot test to Chennai to be with his mother," Shukla tweeted.

Ashwin's absence would've come as a huge blow to the Indian team, reduced to just four bowlers after England raced to 207/2 by stumps on Day 2 in response to India's 445 all out.
