Indian captain Rohit Sharma's early departure for 19 runs has cast a shadow over India's second-innings ambitions in the ongoing third Test against England in Rajkot.

Rohit, who had previously impressed with a century in the first innings, could not extend his form and fell prey to England's Joe Root.

Root's golden arm claims Rohit Sharma's wicket

The Rohit Sharma wicket unfolded in the 12th over of India's second innings, with Joe Root operating from around the wicket. He delivered a full-length delivery aimed at the stumps, which Rohit attempted to counter with a sweep.

Unfortunately for Rohit, he missed, and the ball struck his pads, prompting an appeal from the English side. Initial judgment by umpire Joel Wilson ruled not out; however, England's decision to review was vindicated when replays showed the ball striking in line, leading to a lbw dismissal.

The review by England forced umpire Joel Wilson to reverse his decision, and Rohit had to walk back, having scored 19 runs from 28 deliveries, including three boundaries.

Meanwhile, Rohit's dismissal marked a cautious beginning for India in their second innings, as they aim to build on their first-innings lead. Earlier in the day, England resumed their innings at a comfortable 207/2 but struggled against a disciplined Indian bowling attack.

The visitors were eventually bowled out for 319, allowing India a significant lead of 126 runs. Mohammed Siraj emerged as the standout bowler for India, claiming four wickets, while Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja supported with two wickets each.

At Tea on Day 3, India's score stands at 44/1 after 16 overs, with the young duo of Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal at the crease. The hosts' lead has extended to 170 runs, setting the stage for a potentially decisive phase in the match as play resumes after Tea.
