With a 3-1 lead, Australia was pronounced the winner of the high-stake 5-game Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Here's how Day 3 of the fifth Test between IND vs AUS panned out in Sydney:
IND vs AUS Day 3 Highlights: India bowled out for 157 runs
In the first hour of Day 3’s proceedings, India lost overnight batter Ravindra Jadeja quickly. Washington Sundar’s resistance also couldn’t last long as Australian captain Pat Cummins breathed fire. He bowled a length delivery that changed traction, thus breaking down Sundar’s defence.
However, team India saw some glimmer of hope in Jasprit Bumrah as the stand-in captain returned to the field after injury concerns. However, Scott Boland put the final nail in the coffin to knock over Bumrah for a 3-ball duck. A length delivery, and Bumrah went for the big hit only to miss it terribly. With that, India was bowled out for 157 runs, thus setting up a lowly chase of 162 runs for Australia in the fourth innings.
IND vs AUS Day 3 Highlights: India’s pace attack off to horror start
Jasprit Bumrah didn’t take the field in the fourth inning as India bowled with a bowler short. Moreover, Mohammed Siraj had a horrific start as he leaked 11 runs in the opener overs before Australia stacked up over 30 runs in less than 3 overs.
However, Prasidh Krishna bounced back by getting the first breakthrough of Sam Konstas. He went for a big slog sweep but played into the hands of Washington Sundar at mid-off. Praisdh continues the momentum to force an outside edge from Marnus Labuschagne. The batter lost focus and nicked an outside delivery, marking another troubling failure.
Prasidh Krishna was unstoppable as he dismissed Steve Smith by taking advantage of the extra bounce. From 58/3, Australia rebuilt a partnership of 46 runs between Usman Khawaja and Travis Head.

Mohammad Siraj finally opened his wicket tally by getting out Khawaja in the slip cordon. The ball was ordinary, but Khawaja was undone by the bounce. However, despite quick wickets, Australia had the upper hand in the game as Travis Head and Beau Webster stitched the match-winning partnership of 58 runs for the fifth wicket to seal a comfortable victory.
With a win in the SCG Test, Australia secured the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with a 3-1 lead, marking their first victory against India in the past decade.
