The Border-Gavaskar Trophy is done and dusted and the Aussies have won the series by 3-1 margin. Their first Test series win over India in 10 years and the series loss means that India have also been knocked out of the World Test Championship Final. The WTC final will now see Australia taking on South Africa on 11th of June at the iconic Lord's Stadium.
This is the first time India will not be featuring in the World Test Championship final. They played the first final against the Kiwis in 2021, while the 2023 final was between India and Australia. The Indian team lost both those finals but not qualifying for the finale itself is a big blow to the proud cricketing nation.
Australia Win SCG Test By Six Wickets
This will be the first time South Africa will play the WTC final while Australia would be playing their second consecutive final after winning it last time. India, on the other hand, needed a win in the fifth Test to draw the series and keep their hopes alive. They won the last two Test series in Australia, but have failed to notch up hattrick of series win despite winning the curtain raiser in Perth.
Australia made a strong comeback after losing the first Test and won the second, fourth and final Test to bag a roller-coaster of a series in style. The final Test was also quite an entertaining one with India taking a four-run lead at the end of the first innings by reducing Aussies to 181. Their batting though faltered in the second outing as well and with only 162 to play with, Aussies managed to win the game by six wickets.
