India and Australia are locked in an intense battle, with the fifth Test in Sydney marking the conclusion of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. However, on Day 3, it was Jasprit Bumrah who topped the trending list on social media after sitting out due to potential injury concerns.

India had an abysmal start to Day 3 of the Sydney Test against Australia. The team lost overnight batter Ravindra Jadeja early.

However, what came as a sigh of relief for fans was that Jasprit Bumrah walked out to bat. He lasted for only three balls as Scott Boland cleaned him up for a duck to bowl out India for 157 runs on the board.

Meanwhile, as India walked out on the field to defend 162 runs target, captain Jasprit Bumrah was missing. Mohammed Siraj instead opened the attack for India and got hit for 11 runs. With the equation coming down rapidly, fans on Twitter mentioned Bumrah.

Fans miss Jasprit Bumrah as India stands on brink of series loss

'Without Bumrah' hashtag is trending on social media platforms as many fans deem his absence as a key factor behind India's underwhelming performance with the ball in the last inning.

Bumrah, leading the series with 32 wickets, walked off the field on Day 2 to get some scans done on his back. He didn't return for the day. While the fast bowler was deemed fit to bat, the management is averting the risk of aggravation by keeping him away from bowling in the fourth inning.

However, with the target set low, it's getting tedious for India to stay in contention for a victory in the Sydney Test against Australia.

What lies ahead for Bumrah?

In case Jasprit Bumrah ends up getting diagnosed with a back spasm, his recovery could take months, citing his workload and past injury history. A few years ago, he underwent surgery in his back, resulting in prolonged absence. Meanwhile, if Bumrah gets ruled out for a significant period, team India will find themselves in a lot of trouble. Champions Trophy 2025 is due to begin in February, and without their key asset, the men in blue are expected to struggle massively with the ball.
