The Indian team faced a 3-1 defeat in the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2025. Even though they started off the series on a brilliant not after winning the first Test at the Perth Stadium, they failed to hold on to the momentum.
As India lost the final game of the series, they went out of the race for the WTC final. It has now been confirmed that Australia and South Africa will be playing the final of the WTC 2023-25 final.

Well, so far there is no such report as to India have dismissed him from the post. However, there were rumours that Gambhir was not the first preference of BCCI for the post and that his job was in danger before the start of India's tour to Australia.
