The Indian team faced a 3-1 defeat in the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2025. Even though they started off the series on a brilliant not after winning the first Test at the Perth Stadium, they failed to hold on to the momentum.

As India lost the final game of the series, they went out of the race for the WTC final. It has now been confirmed that Australia and South Africa will be playing the final of the WTC 2023-25 final. 

Notably, this has been one of the darkest phases of Indian cricket as far as Test cricket is concerned. Many fans are of the opinion that since Gautam Gambhir has taken up the job of the head coach, there has been a huge dip in their performance.

Under Gautam Gambhir, India has losing percentage of 60%. They have lost two of the three series that they have played under him. One of the worst achievements during this phase was the fact that India were whitewashed on their home turf by New Zealand. It was the first time this happed and it was after 12 years, that India lost a home Test series.

Gautam Gambhir Sacked As India's Head Coach?

Given the dip in the performance of the Indian cricket, the question automatically arises - Will Gautam Gambhir be sacked as the Head Coach of India in Test cricket?

Well, so far there is no such report as to India have dismissed him from the post. However, there were rumours that Gambhir was not the first preference of BCCI for the post and that his job was in danger before the start of India's tour to Australia.
