Trinbago Knight Riders outclassed Barbados Royals in a tense final-over thriller at the Kensington Oval in match number 15 of the CPL 2024 season.

Here’s the timeline of how BR vs TKR panned out in Barbados:

BR vs TKR Highlights: Akeal Hosein Gets 2 In First Over To Seal Early TKR Advantage

Trinbago Knight Riders spinner Akeal Hosein removed Rahkeem Cornwall and Alick Athanaze for ducks in the opening over of the match as the Barbados Royals crashed to 1-2 early in the game. Cornwall’s opening partner Quinton de Kock counterattacked for the Royals by belting 39 runs from just 21 deliveries, and shared a 53-run stand with number four Rivaldo Clarke (18 off 24).

However, Waqar Salamkheil got rid of both well-set batters in quick succession as the Royals reached 71-5 around the halfway stage of the innings. Sunil Narine also trapped dangerman Jason Holder for a four-ball duck early in his spell to further worsen Royals’ batting misery.

BR vs TKR Highlights: Captain Rovman Powell Leads Royals To Respectability

Barbados Royals skipper and number six batter Rovman Powell led his team’s fighting recovery as he smeared 59 unbeaten runs from just 38 deliveries. Launching two boundaries and five sixes in his swift knock, Powell’s batting resistance helped the Royals set up a competitive total of 156-7 from 20 overs.

In the backend of the innings, Waqar Salamkheil (3-13) trapped David Miller in front of stumps while Sunil Narine (2-16) cleaned up Keshav Maharaj as both Knight Riders spinners sealed impressive bowling figures from their respective four-over spells.

BR vs TKR Highlights: Pooran Steadies Chase After Theekshana’ Top-Order Wreckage

Barbados Royals new-ball spinner Maheesh Theekshana accounted for the wickets of both TKR openers Sunil Narine and Jason Roy in the first couple of overs of his spell. Jolted early at 11-2, number four Nicholas Pooran punched out 35 runs off 23 balls to ease up the nerves by taking his team past the 50-run mark mere moments after the opening powerplay.

Pooran belted four boundaries and two sixes in his knock before unbeaten Shaqkere Parris formed forces with Keacy Carty as the Knight Riders reached 67-3 in the first 10 overs of the innings.

BR vs TKR Highlights: 30s From Parris, Carty Negates Royals’ Collective Bowling Show

Both Shaqkere Parris (35 off 40) and Keacy Carty (32 off 21) conjured crafty 30s from their respective ends to take the Knight Riders past the 100-run mark. Unfortunately for them, both Parris and Carty fell in quick succession to Maheesh Theekshana and Obed McCoy respectively to slip to 118-5 in 16 overs.

Captain Kieron Pollard also made his way back to the sheds the following over as he was cleaned up by Naveen-ul-Haq for a sluggish seven-ball three. McCoy and Jason Holder picked up a wicket each in the death overs, but collective lower-order brilliance from Akeal Hosein (20 off 10) and Terrance Hinds (14* off 5) helped the Knight Riders seal the chase with two wickets and a ball to spare.
