The Trinbago Knight Riders and the Barbados Royals are currently engaged in a high-stakes battle, the 15th match of the CPL 2024, at the iconic Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados.

The Knights are pursuing 157 runs in the game after the Royals batted first. The Knight Riders started their match with a double wicket over by Akeal Hosein and immediately had the upper hand. Quinton de Kock's cameo did not do much good for the Royals, as they kept losing wickets at regular intervals and falling away from the game.

Rovman Powell brought the Royals back into the game

However, Rovman Powell played a crucial knock in the middle-order and kept the Royals in the game. The captain of the Barbados Royals scored 59 runs off 38 deliveries and played a crucial role in ensuring that his team would get past the 150 mark. At the end of the 20 overs, the Royals scored 156/7.

The Knights' start was disastrous, as they lost Sunil Narine off the first delivery. Narine was soon followed by Roy, and their chase was falling apart. However, Nicholas Pooran, who walked in at Roy's fall, started to change things around for his team.

He slammed Maheesh Theekshana for a couple of big hits and got the innings going. With his counter-attacking style of cricket, Pooran soon found himself at 35 off 22 deliveries. He was starting to look dangerous, and Rovman Powell was looking desperate for a wicket.

Powell and Holder combined to get rid of Pooran

Powell turned to Keshav Maharaj for the wicket, and the South African spinner delivered. On the fourth delivery, Maharaj picked up Pooran's crucial wicket. However, the wicket should be credited to Powell and Jason Holder, who combined at the boundary line to put in a brilliant fielding effort.

It was a good-length delivery that angled away from the batter from the off-stump. Pooran stepped down the track and tried to power the ball over the long-off fence. However, he did not get a proper connection, and the ball stood up in the air rather than travelling the distance. Powell, stationed at mid-off, ran back and took the catch. But he soon realised he would cross the fence with the momentum and flicked the ball back. Holder was present at the right place at the right time and grabbed the flick back by his skipper to complete a stunning fielding effort.

With the way Pooran was going, his wicket was a big blow to the Knights at that stage.  At the time of writing, the Knights are stationed at 99/3 in 13 overs.
