The Barbados Royals and the Trinbago Knight Riders are crossing swords in the 15th match of the CPL 2024 at the Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados. The Knights won the toss of this game and put the Royals to bat first.

Kieron Pollard handed the ball to Akeal Hosein for the first over, and the spinner responded in the best way possible. He picked up Rahkeem Cornwall and Alick Athanaze in the first over and put the Royals on the back foot.

Rovman Powell showed resilience for the Royals

Quinton de Kock looked in good touch and was looking to lay a strong foundation for his team. He looked good in the middle and scored a quickfire 39 off 21 deliveries. However, Waqar Salamkheil got the better of the South African batter and solidified the position of the Knight Riders in the game.

The Royals kept losing wickets at regular intervals, and it looked like they would fall short of a fighting total in the game. However, Rovman Powell decided to stand up for his team amidst the crisis. He played a brilliant knock of  59 runs off 38 deliveries, decorated by two fours and five maximums.

Rovman Powell's resilient and courageous effort under pressure ensured the Royals got 156/7 in their 20 overs. Given the strength of the TKR's batting, it was a moderate target. But the Knights would have hoped for a good start from their openers, Sunil Narine and Jason Roy.

Narine failed to live up his reputation as an opener

Sunil Narine was particularly a point of discussion during the latest edition of the IPL due to his batting. He provided the Kolkata Knight Riders with some great starts during the tournament, and the same was expected from him during this tournament.

However, in this game against the Royals, the veteran West Indian all-rounder fell for a golden duck. Maheesh Theekshana was bowling the first over for the Royals. On the first ball of the innings, the Sri Lankan spinner bowled a quicker delivery at the length on the off-stump line. Sunil Narine tried to create room for himself by moving to the leg side of the line and then hit the ball over Rovman Powell at mid-off. However, Narine miscued the shot, and it skied up in the air to be taken by the Royals' skipper easily.

Theekshana followed this with Jason Roy's wicket in the next over, and the Knights were in trouble early in the chase. At the time of writing, TKR are stationed at 21/2 in 2.5 overs as rain has interrupted the proceedings.
