Renegades vs Strikers Highlights: Jake Fraser McGurk continues woeful run

Melbourne Renegades were asked to bat first at Docklands Stadium and face an early blow in Jake Fraser McGurk. The promising opener failed once again to prove his mettle as he edged an outside-the-off-stump delivery by Doggett that went straight to wicket-keeper Olli Pope. Tim Seifert and Jacob Bethell also lost their wickets in quick succession, leaving Renegades in a precarious position.

The game was slipping away from Renegades as they dropped to 87/3 at one stage. However, opener Josh Brown slammed a fighting half-century to steer his team to a respective total. He finished with 66 off 41 balls, and courtesy of this knock, the Renegades posted 142 runs on the board at the end of the first innings.

Adelaide Strikers openers Chris Lynn and D’Arcy Short came out with positive and aggressive intent. Renegades captain Will Sutherland leaked 19 runs in the seventh over, which reduced the required run rate. While Short took his time, Lynn played a solid solo knock to bring up his half-century in just 31 balls. He faced most balls in the first 10 overs while Short played a supporting role. Tom Rogers nailed the first breakthrough for his team after he bowled Short with a back-of-the-length slower delivery that crashed into the batter’s middle stump.

Chris Lynn continued his onslaught from one end before Adam Zampa put a stoppage to his carnage. He holed out to Laurie Evans at short cover. However, Lynn did the job for Strikers by scoring 88 off 51 balls, including 10 fours and four maximums. 

While the Renegades’ bowling attack produced a couple of more breakthroughs, the ship had already sailed since the required run rate was below 3 runs per over. The Strikers sealed an easy 5-wicket victory.
