In a significant development, Marcus Stoinis delivered an exceptional performance for Melbourne Stars in their chase against Brisbane Heat in the 19th match of the ongoing Big Bash League at the Gabba. The star batter, not only led from the front with the bat but also etched his name in BBL history by surpassing Glenn Maxwell’s all-time runs tally for the Stars.

Winning the toss and opting to bowl first, Melbourne Stars put in a disciplined performance with the ball, restricting Brisbane Heat to 149 runs in their 20 overs.

Chasing the target, the Stars were off to a disastrous start with openers Ben Duckett and Thomas Rogers dismissed cheaply.  However, Marcus Stoinis stood tall in the middle overs. The captain played a composed yet aggressive knock, scoring 62 runs off 48 balls. 

With his 62-run knock, Stoinis achieved another milestone in his BBL career. He surpassed Glenn Maxwell to become the Melbourne Stars’ all-time leading run-scorer, with 2850 runs, just ahead of Maxwell’s previous record of 2845 runs.

Stoinis' brilliant innings, combined with his leadership, had put Melbourne Stars back in contention for the win. With this win, the eight-game losing streak comes to an end for the  Stars, marking their first victory of the season. It's a perfect start to 2025 for the Marcus Stoinis-led side. Meanwhile, the Brisbane Heat suffer two consecutive losses at home.
