During the first practice session at the Sydney Cricket Ground, India’s slip cordon featured Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Nitish Reddy, and Shubman Gill. Captain Rohit Sharma was nowhere to be found, leading to speculations about his snub for the final Test against Australia.

And later it was confirmed that Rohit won't be playing the fifth and final Test against Australia as he opted out of the clash.

The Indian cricket team hit rock bottom when dressing room conversations were leaked by the media. Apparently, head coach Gautam Gambhir is not on good terms with captain Rohit Sharma, leading to rifts. The toxic dressing room environment is reportedly impacting the team’s on-field performance.

Amid this, Gambhir turned up for the pre-game press conference on Thursday at SCG. Rohit Sharma’s absence from media duties led to fans speculating about his future with the Test team. Many feared him getting dropped, and changes in the practice session perhaps dropped subtle hints.

Rohit Sharma missing as Shubman Gill takes catches at slip

During India’s fielding practice session, the slip cordon featured Virat Kohli, KL Rahul and Nitish Reddy. Moreover, Shubman Gill also took catches at slip against spinners. The slip cordon didn’t include Rohit Sharma, and that raised many eyebrows as the captain has been consistently fielding in the slips this whole series.

These tweaks in the slip cordon intensified speculations surrounding Rohit Sharma’s potential absence from the SCG Test. As per rumours, Gill is all set to replace Rohit for the final Test of the eventful Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

Akash Deep to miss the fifth Test with back issues

India’s fast bowler Akash Deep is set to miss the fifth Test against Australia at Sydney Cricket Ground due to an injury. As confirmed by head coach Gautam Gambhir, the pacer is dealing with a back injury and is not fit for the final Test.

It remains to be seen how the visitors will manage the playing XI combination. Gambhir stayed mum on the issue, saying a final XI will be decided, looking at the pitch and conditions on match day.
