The Durbar Rajshahi team recorded its first win of the BPL 2024-25 season courtesy of Taskin Ahmed’s record spell and captain Anamul Haque’s run-chase masterclass. Capitals vs Rajshahi Highlights: Eskinazi, Hossain Overcome Early Taskin Scare

Durbar Rajshahi senior fast bowler Taskin Ahmed struck twice with the new ball with the wickets of both Dhaka Capitals openers, Litton Das and Tanzid Hasan within the first two overs of his initial spell. Tottering at 14-2, middle-order batters Stephen Eskinazi and Shahadat Hossain rescued the Capitals with a steadfast 79-run partnership for the third wicket.

Eskinazi punched out a swift 29-ball 46 from his end with six boundaries and two sixes to steer the Capitals to the brink of the 100-run mark inside 11 overs before the South African import was castled by Rajshahi spinner Hasan Murad.

Dhaka Capitals captain and Sri Lankan veteran Thisara Perera was holed out by Yasir Ali off Mohor Sheikh following his 21-run blitz from just nine balls. Making his return for a fresh two-over spell in the slog overs, Taskin Ahmed added five more wickets to his tally in the space of just 12 balls, which included the prized-scalp of Capitals half-centurion and top-scorer Shahadat Hossain (50 off 41).

Ahmed had Chaturanga de Silva caught behind for just a single, and picked up three wickets in the final over to snare BPL’s all-time record figures of 7-19 from his four overs. With Shubham Ranjane chipping in with a fiery 13-ball 24, the Capitals eventually reached a competitive 174-9 by the completion of their innings.

Capitals vs Rajshahi Highlights: Anamul Haque Steadies Rajshahi Amidst Early Wickets

Chasing 175, Durbar Rajshahi lost opener Jishan Alam for an eight-ball duck to Mukidul Islam in just the fourth over of the innings. Alam’s opening partner and Pakistan star Mohammad Haris was also bested by Mustafizur Rahman within the first over after whacking the senior Bangladeshi speedster for an early boundary and six.

Overcoming his team’s early setbacks, captain Anamul Haque steadied Rajshahi’s faltering run-chase with a 42-run partnership with Yasir Ali. While Yasir’s threatening stay was curtailed by Alauddin Babu for a near run-a-ball 22 around the halfway stage, the Durbar Rajshahi reached 77-3 after the first 10 overs.
