Ajinkya Rahane's Horrendous Run Continues; Departs For 7 In Ranji Trophy Final

Out-of-favour Indian batter Ajinkya Rahane sustained his lean patch in the ongoing Ranji Trophy season, as he was dismissed for seven runs in the all-important final between Mumbai and Vidarbha.

After being put into bat first, Mumbai were off to a positive start, with Prithvi Shaw and Bhupen Lalwani stitching a magnificent 81-run stand for the first wicket. However, sensational bowling spells from Harsh Dubey and Yash Thakur pushed the title contenders down on the mat, leaving them reeling at 111 for six at one stage.

Dubey, who emerged as the wrecker-in-chief with the ball for Vidarbha, got rid of Shaw and Musheer Khan before dismissing Rahane at a crucial juncture of the game.

Thus, Rahane failed to make a mark yet again in the tournament, this time in the high-stakes final against Vidarbha's rampant bowling attack.

The Mumbai batter made his international comeback last year, albeit unexpectedly, when India clashed with Australia in the World Test Championship final.

Although he performed in that game, Rahane had a string of ordinary outings on India's subsequent tours, eventually losing his place in the national setup.

The Ranji Trophy 2024 offered him a massive opportunity to reclaim his Test spot; however, the veteran cricketer let it go by not converting his starts into big scores.

Regarding the game, Shardul Thakur is once again battling it out for Mumbai, slamming a flamboyant fifty for the second consecutive time. As of writing, the hosts were placed at 191 for eight, with Thakur and Tushar Deshpande batting on 51* and 6*, respectively.
