Shreyas Iyer continues to struggle in his Ranji Trophy return as he was dismissed for just seven by fellow Team India discard Umesh Yadav in the final.

Arriving to the crease at the stroke of lunch on Day 1, the cricketer took on a short ball from Yadav, only to manage a thick outside edge to spoon an easy catch towards Vidarbha player Karun Nair stationed at first slip.

Shreyas Iyer took field for Mumbai at the Wankhede Stadium on March 10 to face Vidarbha in the final of the 2024 Ranji Trophy season.

Batting at number five and arriving to the crease at 92-3, Iyer’s struggling stay lasted just 15 deliveries as he was done-in by a short delivery from senior Vidarbha fast bowler Umesh Yadav.

His untimely departure further worsened Mumbai’s batting troubles as they slipped to 99-4 by 28 overs.

Shreyas Iyer also managed to tally just three runs for Mumbai in their semifinal clash against Tamil Nadu earlier this month. The match marked his return to Mumbai’s domestic setup after he had turned up for Team India at Hyderabad and Vizag for their home Test series against England.

The 29-year-old was subsequently snubbed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) from their annual contract list. His dwindling form for the Indian team in Test cricket had prompted the selectors and the team management to urge him to get back to his domestic roots.

Regardless, Shreyas Iyer will soon be seen leading the KKR franchise in the upcoming IPL 2024 season.
