Ahead of India's extensive Test season, veteran batter Ajinkya Rahane has made headlines once again by scoring his second County Championship century and his first for Leicestershire.

Ajinkya Rahane, once India's rock solid middle order batter in Test format, faded away with time due to inconsistency. Despite leading India to a memorable Border Gavaskar Trophy victory in 2021, Rahane, the then vice-captain, was shown the exit door.

However, Ajinkya Rahane, on his part, never stopped grinding. He is proving himself all over again with consistent performances in the Ranji Trophy.

To further refine his skills under overseas conditions, Rahane signed with Leicestershire for the 2024 County Championship and scored a hundred in the recent game against Glamorgan.

Ajinkya Rahane came out at no.4 and stitched a 183-run partnership with Peter Handscomb to revive Leicestershire in the fierce contest.

He displayed remarkable patience and concentration, battling the swinging conditions and a disciplined bowling attack. Owing to the vital partnership, Leicestershire gained a lead over Glamorgan to stay afloat.

Rahane Ignored For Duleep Trophy!

It's important to note that Ajinkya Rahane activated his revenge mode in the County Championship after being ignored from the Duleep Trophy

The former Indian vice captain, out of the team since 2023, failed to find a spot in the 60 players list released by the Ajit Agarkar led selection committee last month.

His exclusion was deemed an indication by the Agarkar committee that perhaps Rahane should stop dreaming of a comeback.  However, instead of sulking, Ajinkya Rahane signed an agreement for Leicestershire to move overseas.

Whether a century is enough for him to fall back into senior team contention remains to be seen. But his focus and passion for the sport are things the fans would keep an eye on.
