Shadab Khan made a strong and inspiring comeback to competitive cricket during the Big Bash League 2025–26 match against Sydney Thunder at Manuka Oval in Canberra on December 22.
After spending several months away from the game due to injury, the Pakistan all-rounder looked confident, and completely in control as he delivered an outstanding bowling performance.
Notably, playing his first major tournament since recovering from shoulder surgery, Shadab reminded everyone of his class by picking up four wickets for just 24 runs in his four overs.
Shadab celebrates comeback with stunning four-wicket haul
Sydney Thunder had set a challenging target of 193 runs, and Shadab played a key role while defending it with disciplined and aggressive bowling.
Shadab made an early impact by removing experienced batter Colin Munro in the fifth over, setting the tone for his spell. In the same over, he struck again by dismissing Jack Wildermuth, putting Thunder under immediate pressure.
Shadab continued his impressive rhythm later in the innings when he broke a dangerous 70-run partnership by dismissing Matt Renshaw. He then claimed his fourth wicket in the 17th over by sending Tom Alsop back to the pavilion, who managed only five runs from nine balls.
This four-wicket haul was special for more than one reason. With these wickets, Shadab completed 350 wickets in T20 cricket for Pakistan, placing him among the country’s most successful bowlers in the format. Only Wahab Riaz, Mohammad Amir, Sohail Tanvir, and Imad Wasim have taken more T20 wickets for Pakistan.
It is worth mentioning that Shadab’s journey back to cricket has not been easy. He underwent right-shoulder surgery in England on July 5 after dealing with ongoing pain. The recovery process kept him out of action for nearly five months and forced him to miss important tournaments, including the Asia Cup 2025. His return in the BBL marks a major milestone in his comeback.
So far in the BBL 2025–26 season, Shadab has taken six wickets in three matches. He has also made useful contributions with the bat, scoring 75 runs in two innings.
