New Zealand continued their strong form by defeating West Indies in the third Test at Mount Maunganui. With this win, they not only sealed the three-match series 2–0 but also climbed one place in the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025–27 points table.

The hosts dominated the match from start to finish. After winning the toss, New Zealand put up a massive total of 575 runs in their first innings. Openers Tom Latham and Devon Conway were the stars, adding 323 runs together.

Conway played a brilliant knock, scoring a double century, while Latham also reached his hundred. West Indies replied with 420 runs, thanks to a fighting unbeaten 123 by Kavem Hodge.

In the second innings, New Zealand once again showed their batting strength. Latham and Conway continued their fine form and both scored centuries again, helping the team reach 306 for 2. This set West Indies a huge target of 462 runs to win the match.

However, chasing such a big score proved too difficult. On a pitch that was breaking up on the final day, West Indies were bowled out for just 138 runs. Fast bowler Jacob Duffy was outstanding, taking five wickets in the innings and nine in the match. His performance played a key role in New Zealand’s 323-run victory.

Black Caps leapfrog rivals in WTC rankings

This win has pushed New Zealand from third to second place in the WTC standings. The 2021 WTC champions now have 28 points and a points percentage (PCT) of 77.77%. They have moved ahead of SA, who are slightly behind with a PCT of 75%.

At the top of the table, Australia remain number one. They recently beat England in the third Test of the Ashes to take a 3-0 lead and have won all six of their WTC matches so far. Australia have 72 points and a perfect 100% PCT.

Meanwhile, India are currently sixth after a poor home series loss to South Africa. They have won four of their nine matches and have a PCT of 48.15%. England sit seventh, having won only two out of eight Tests.

At the bottom of the table are Bangladesh and West Indies. Bangladesh have a PCT of 16.67%, while WI remain last with just over 4%. The Caribbean side has lost seven of their eight matches, making their chances of reaching the WTC final almost impossible.
