Pakistan all-rounder Shadab Khan is set to feature in the upcoming Big Bash League (BBL) season, where he will represent the Sydney Thunder. He shared his excitement about how Pakistan cricketers are adding more attention and value to the league.
Notably, Shadab recently returned to full fitness after a challenging period. He had right-shoulder surgery on July 5 in England after dealing with long-term discomfort.
The operation kept him out for nearly five months and forced him to miss major events, including the Asia Cup 2025. His appearance for Sydney Thunder will be his first major outing since recovery.
Shadab Khan praises rise of Pakistan players in BBL
During a virtual media session from Sydney, Shadab explained how special it feels to see many Pakistan stars playing in the BBL together.
“The league is also getting fame because of big names from Pakistan,” he said.
Shadab also talked about what it feels like to compete against his own national teammates in foreign conditions. He said,
“In our country, we’ve been playing against each other, but now we are doing it internationally. Everyone is looking forward to facing friends in competitive matches."
It is worth mentioning that for Shadab, this BBL season is an important comeback moment after months away from cricket. He said,
“BBL is a good opportunity, and I have to make the most of it. Injuries are part of the game; I’m not the only one who faces them.”
Shadab is also excited about learning from Australian players. Speaking about sharing a dressing room with stars like Pat Cummins and David Warner, he said,
“We will get an opportunity to learn from them, and it’s always beneficial to be around such big names.”
Notably, Sydney Thunder will begin their campaign on December 16 against the Hobart Hurricanes in Hobart, with David Warner leading the side.
From Pakistan, Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Mohammad Rizwan are joining the BBL for the first time, while Shadab, Hasan Ali, and Haris Rauf have previously played in the league.
