Karun Nair had to endure a failure once again as he was dismissed on 26 off 46 against England in the second Test at Edgbaston. In the first session of Day 4, Nair edged to the wicket-keeper and faced the fans' wrath on social media over his lacklustre performance.

India had a 244-run lead when Nair and KL Rahul walked out to bat on Day 4. The initial hour was challenging as Nair was continuously put under pressure by England's pacers.

He struggled against short balls and nicked almost every other delivery until Brydon Carse got the better of him.

In the 21st over, Brydon Carse struck for England, dismissing Karun Nair with a sharp delivery just outside off. Despite nursing a foot injury, Carse was in rhythm and constantly troubling the batters.

He bowled a full seam-up delivery that lured Nair into an expansive drive. The ball tailed away slightly, found the thick outside edge, and flew to wicket-keeper Jamie Smith, who took a neat catch diving to his right.

Nair’s promising knock ended on 26 off 46 balls, including 5 boundaries. It was a much-needed breakthrough for England on a morning when Carse looked threatening with every over he bowled.

However, Nair bore the brunt of fans’ frustration. Since returning to Test cricket after 8 years, the veteran is yet to nail a substantial knock.

"Karun Nair is finished! He does not have the quality to play in seaming conditions. In overcast swinging English conditions he made a struggling 26. His 300 was a fluke in India!" @Sshankara

In the first inning of the Edgbaston Test, Karun departed on 31 runs. Moreover, in the first Test at Leeds, Karun Nair scored 0 and 20 runs in two innings as his total accounts to 77 runs in four innings so far.

Meanwhile, India still has over 280 runs lead with Rahul and skipper Shubman Gill on strike. The captain will have big responsibilities since he scored a double hundred in the first inning.
