India's star batter Karun Nair, who returned to the Indian team after seven years of wait, failed to utilise the opportunity and registered a duck on his comeback. In the ongoing 1st Test between India and England at Headingley Leeds, the right-handed batter fell victim to a brilliant piece of fielding.
Notably, Karun walked to bat in a comfortable situation on day 2 when India were 430/4. The 33-year-old waited four balls to swing his bat, but Ollie Pope ruined his dream comeback with a one-handed stunner. On the last ball of the 105th over, Nair looked to clear the ball over short cover, but Pope jumped high in the air and flaunted his athletic skills. Watch the catch here.
Karun Nair Joins Sai Sudharsan In Embarrassing Feat
It was an embarrassing day for Karun Nair as he walked on to bat when India were in a comfortable situation. Notably, captain Shubman Gill smashed a century, while his deputy Rishabh Pant also followed it up with a ton.
However, Sai Sudharsan also scored a four-ball duck on his Test debut. Now, Nair has to prove his selection in the 2nd innings as there were a lot of chatters around his place in the team before the 1st Test.
Karun Nair Shines In Domestic Season
The 33-year-old had a brilliant domestic season, where he smashed five centuries in Ranji Trophy and averaged 50+. It led to his India call-up and he backed it up with a double century during India A's match against England Lions.
There were also fitness concerns before the 1st Test as Nair had taken a hit on the body in the training session that left him in pain.
