India ended Day 3 of the second Test against England at Edgbaston with a 244-run lead in the second innings. Despite having their back against the wall, Harry Brook is hopeful of his team’s comeback, saying tables tend to turn quickly.
On Day 3, England were down to 84/5 after a couple of quick wickets. However, Brook and Jamie Smith knitted a 303-run colossal partnership. While Brook hit 158 runs, Smith remained unbeaten on 184.
Harry Brook Addresses England’s Late Collapse
However, despite the mega partnership, England collapsed in the third session. After Brook’s wicket, three batters were dismissed on a duck, whereas Chris Woakes managed to add 5 runs to the team’s total.
From 387/5, England were bowled out for 407. Harry Brook, meanwhile, believes the game is still open. As per NDTV, Brook pointed to India’s collapse in the first Test at Headingley as an example. England had claimed 7 wickets for only 30 runs and then 6 more for 40 in another session.
"As we've seen last week we got seven for 30 runs and then six for 40 runs at Headingley and then they've done the same to us today. Yeah, obviously they're in front at the minute, but like I said before if we get a couple of early wickets in the morning, three or four wickets in the morning you never know how this game can go," Brook said.
Now, it is a challenging task for England on Day 4. They have to take early wickets and stop India from gaining an enormous lead. Meanwhile, India will look to bat long and make their advantage even bigger.
