The second edition of the Women's Premier League (WPL) has seen an impressive response from the Bengaluru leg with Mumbai Indians (MUM-W) topping charts with as many wins from two matches. After beating Delhi Capitals and Gujarat Giants in their initial couple of games, they will be facing UP Warriorz (UP-W) on February 28 at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru.

Before the match starts, here is a look at the top captain and vice-captain choices, the important player stats, and the players you may avoid in the fantasy contests of the game.

MUM-W vs UP-W Toss Factor

The M Chinnaswamy Stadium has seen the onset of the dew as the game progresses, thereby enhancing the chance of win for the team batting second. That has been the usual way of approaching the game here in the past five matches.  The spinners have been crucial on various intervals while the pacers tend to get early movement under the floodlights. Two South Africans, Shabnim Ismail and Marizanne Kapp were brilliant with the new ball in the past couple of days.

Scenario: If Mumbai Indians win the toss

  •  The Mumbai-based franchise have won both their matches while batting second.
  •  Shabnim Ismail has often given the breakthrough with the new ball while Amelia Kerr has proved her mettle with the wrist spin once again during the middle overs.
  • They have a very good top five and they tend to do bulk of their work. So, its important to include the likes of Hayley Matthews, Yastika Bhatia, Amelia Kerr, Nat-Sciver Brunt and Harmanpreet Kaur.

Scenario: If UP Warriorz win the toss

  •  The Alyssa Healy-led unit have failed in both matches despite batting and bowling first. Since they were nearing a victory while chasing, the side would look to do so and turn the table this time.
  • They're a spin heavy and batting heavy side. The likes of Shweta Sehrawat, Grace Harris, Tahlia McGrath and Sophie Ecclestone should be key.

MUM-W vs UP-W - Top Captain and Vice-Captain Picks

Scenario: If Mumbai Indians win the match

Harmanpreet Kaur (MUM-W): The Indian captain has a very good record against the UP Warriorz with a match-winning fifty in the last season. She has an average of 101 this season and hence can take the game away from the opposition on her will.

Amelia Kerr (MUM-W):  The Kiwi all-rounder has been brilliant with her wrist spin during the middle overs of the game this season. She scalped a four-for in the last game and snapped six wickets in the tourney overall.  She has also been effective with the willow in hand.

Scenario: If UP Warrioz win the match

Grace Harris (UP-W): The Australian power-hitter looked in good touch in the first game against RCB but failed to steer the side past the finishing line. Harris has evolved with his finger spin as well and will be key during the powerplay and middle overs.

Sophie Ecclestone (UP-W): Although it has not been a great start for the English spinner in WPL 2024, she is one of the best in the business. Ecclestone has the reputation to do good in high-voltage encounters and not just with her finger spin but also with late cameos with the bat down the order.

MUM-W vs UP-W- High Risk, High Reward

Hayley Matthews (MUM-W): The Caribbean all-rounder did not kickoff the season in her desired way but she is a proven match-winner. Matthews came to the mega-event on the back of scintillating performance against Australia and would like to get back in the same zone.

Tahlia McGrath (UP-W): The Australian all-rounder has failed to produce heroics with his three-dimensional skillset. However, it does not rule out the fact that she is a proven-match-winner. Batting at no.3, McGrath should have enough time to get into her groove.

MUM-W vs UP-W- Stay Aways

Amanjot Kaur (MUM-W): The capped all-rounder has been featured in all their matches so far but did not get enough opportunity to showcase her skillset. Since the Mumbai side have enough options with the ball and bat, its likely that Amanjot won't get enough overs to bat or ball.

Kiran Navgire (UP-W): Renowned for her ball-striking ability, Navgire has failed to transcend her domestic brilliance to the WPL level. She could be avoided in the team.
