'Jadeja World-Class, But..' - Alastair Cook Makes Critical Analysis Of All-Rounder

England’s legendary Test opener Alastair Cook heaped praise on Dhruv Jurrel post his heroics in the fourth Test against England. Cook was impressed with Jurel’s ability to ‘find the right balance between attack and defense’.

England's former captain drew comparisons between Ravindra Jadeja's and Jurel's batting approach and reckoned that the latter should bat higher up the order.

“Jadeja in particular showed probably why he should be batting a little bit lower,” Cook explained. “Yes he can score runs but the ability, under pressure, to find that balance between attack and defence under pressure – pressure does funny thing to you."

"Jadeja is a world-class all-rounder, but batting at five there he struggled in terms of taking no risks because he didn’t want to get out or trying to put a bit of pressure back on as a batter. But Jurel found that balance perfectly with his feet movement and sharpness of mind."

Playing only his second Test, Dhruv Jurel took India out of trouble after playing a sensational knock of 90 runs in 149 deliveries in the fourth Test. During India’s second essay, he again came when his team were in a precarious situation at 120-5 in pursuit of a 192-run target.

The wicket-keeper batter absorbed the pressure wonderfully and mixed caution with aggression. He remained unbeaten on 39, guiding India to a five-wicket win and, thereby, claiming the series 3-1.

The fifth and final Test is due to start on 7th March 2024 at Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala.
