The Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) stormed into the CPL 2023 final with a colossal win over table-toppers Guyana Amazon Warriors in the first qualifier. TKR opener Chadwick Walton enthralled one-and-all at Guyana’s Providence Stadium as his belligerent 80* gunned down Warriors’ 166 with nearly two overs to spare.

Star attractions Kieron Pollard and Nicholas Pooran also clubbed sparkling cameos from their ends to make lightwork of Amazon Warriors’ competitive effort.

Apart from all the on-field action that kept Guyana crowd at the edge of their seats, on-field umpires also seemingly joined in the fun as evidenced from a hilarious incident occurred during the Knight Riders’ run-chase.

Umpire Nigel Duguid mimics John Cena

Guyana-based West Indies international umpire Nigel Duguid officiated alongside Deighton Butler during Knight Riders’ one-sided win over the Amazon Warriors. During the fifth over of the Knight Riders’ run-chase, Guyana captain Imran Tahir appealed to Duguid for a leg before against opener Mark Deyal.

While the umpire gave the verdict ‘not out’ from his end, he did so hilariously. Duguid, much like WWE wrestler John Cena’s signature ‘You Can’t See Me’ gesture, conveyed his decision to Tahir in the same manner.

An unsatisfied Imran Tahir, on the other hand, subsequently decided to go upstairs and eventually got his desired result. By dismissing Deyal for 15, he accounted for the first Knight Riders’ wicket of the evening.

However, Deyal’s opening partner Chadwick Walton bludgeoned an unbeaten 57-ball 80 to finish off the game in his side’s favour by the 19th over.
