The lethal Indian pacer Mohammed Shami has been one of the most prolific bowlers in world cricket at this stage with his highly controlled seam deliveries that can rattle any of the top batters. Currently, featuring in the 1st ODI against Australia, the right-arm pacer bagged a five-wicket haul, helping India bowl out visitors for 276.

The pacer was instrumental in providing India with early breakthroughs where he bagged wickets of Mitchell Marsh, Steve Smith, Marcus Stoinis, Matthew Short and then Sean Abbott. His fabulous spell of 5/51 in ten overs proved to be quite beneficial for the side as consistent breaks were applied to their innings.

Shami, who has been Men in Blue's go-to person for the past decade, has achieved another milestone during the first game of the three-match bilateral series.

The 33-year-old has now recorded the best bowling figures by an Indian pacer against Australia on Indian soil. The next best on the list is Ajit Agarkar, who did it in the year 2003 at Wakhede.

Top Five Best Bowling Figures For Indian Pacers Against Australia in India:

This spell by Shami is also his personal best in One-Day cricket, with his previous best against England, where he had figures of 5/69.

He has been India's most efficient bowler and would play a crucial role in the World Cup, but only if he manages to retain his position in the side, as Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj will be the first picks. Considering this, Shardul Thakur and Shami would have a two-way battle for one remaining spot.
