Mohammed Shami, after being sidelined for a major part of the 2023 Asia Cup in Sri Lanka this month, roared back into India’s playing XI with an imperial spell against Australia. The speedster made instant impact, removed Mitchell Marsh within the opening over before cleaning up a well-settled Steve Smith.

Shami eventually finished with a five-fer and registered his career-best ODI figures of 5-51. After completing his five-wicket haul, the seasoned fast bowler received a congratulatory hug from none other than India’s Asia Cup 2023 standout star Mohammed Siraj.

Mohammed Shami played just two matches during India’s entire Asia Cup 2023 victorious run in Sri Lanka this month. The speedster only featured in the Indian line-up at the expense of either Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. The latter of the two bowlers even delivered the spell of the tournament at the final, thus orchestrating a colossal one-sided win for the ‘Men in Blue’.

Shami, who jolted Australia’s batting line-up at the high-scoring Mohali venue with a five-fer on his comeback game, received a congratulatory hug from none other than Siraj during the mid-innings break.

The two cricketers were seen hugging each other in a seemingly picture-perfect pose, which instantly went viral on social media.

For Australia, opener David Warner listed a near run-a-ball 52 while Steve Smith, Marnus Labuschagne, Josh Inglis, Cameron Green, Marcus Stoinis all slapped notable contributions from their ends.

Some death overs fury by captain Pat Cummins lifted the Australians to a competitive 276 from their 50 overs. The match is the first ODI of a three-game series between the two sides to mark their final set of fixtures prior to the imminent 2023 World Cup.
