'I Don’t Want To Put Any Pressure': Litton Das On Returning Seniors for NZ Series

The first ODI of the ongoing three-match series between Bangladesh and New Zealand got abandoned due to rain.

New Zealand were 136/5 in 33.4 overs when a heavy downpour at Dhaka allowed no further play, forcing the fixture to end in a no-result.

While the Bangladesh bowlers, especially Mustafizur Rahman and Nasum Ahmed, did significantly well with the ball, the primary focus was on the second innings as two returning seniors Tamim Iqbal and Mahmudullah returned to action and would have batted had rain not played the spoilsport.

While Tamim made a comeback after recovering from a back injury, Mahmudullah, who got dropped after the England ODIs in March, earned an unexpected call-up.

Speaking on the duo's return, Bangladesh stand-in skipper Litton Das asserted that he wants the easy ways for the veterans to get back into the rhythm by not putting pressure on them.

"When there are two seniors (Tamim and Mahmudullah) it helps in every way. There are coming back to play after a while and I don’t want to put any pressure on them. Let them enjoy the game because chance of success is much more if someone can enjoy the game," Litton said as quoted by Cricbuzz.

Litton also emphasised that these players are mature enough to play according to the situations and he has not assigned any specific roles to them.

"I don’t want to tell about any specific roles (to anyone) because it depends on different situations. If we lose quick wickets and Riyad (Mahmudullah) bhai goes to bat with 30 to 35 overs he will bat as per situation. So there is nothing to say because he is mature and the same thing applies to Soumya and wherever they will bat they will try to score runs. And not only need them every batter need to score runs," he added.

Bangladesh will now face-off against New Zealand on September 23 at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Dhaka in the second ODI of the series.
