With a packed schedule ahead, which includes key Test series both at home and abroad, Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma has been hitting the gym with renewed intensity to prepare for a hectic upcoming Test season.

Indian captain Rohit Sharma scripted history to win the 2024 T20 World Cup for India, thus mitigating the decade-long ICC trophy drought. 

The next big challenge is to qualify for the 2025 WTC finals and the hunt for the same will begin later this month.

India will be hosting Bangladesh and New Zealand in a multi-game Test series in September and October respectively before leaving for Australia to feature in the highly anticipated Border Gavaskar trophy. All these Test matches will largely influence India’s position in the WTC standings.

Hence, days leading up to the tiring red ball season, Indian captain Rohit Sharma has hit the gym to kick start his preparations. 

In a video posted on social media, Rohit is seen doing muscle and cardio training with specialist trainers. The flexibility exercises were designed to improve endurance and agility, both crucial elements for a cricketer in the Test arena.

The decision to focus on fitness comes after an extensive period of rest for Rohit. After the Sri Lanka tour, Indian senior players have been out of the field and Rohit even skipped Duleep Trophy.

Additionally, as a captain, his commitment to fitness sets an example for his teammates, thus emphasising the importance of right preparation and resilience.

Rohit-Virat Faces Criticism For Skipping Duleep Trophy

The BCCI selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar omitted Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from the list of squads released for the 2024 Duleep Trophy season. The red ball domestic tournament was scheduled to prepare players for the upcoming Test season.

While the senior duo were rumoured to be available for participation, their last minute snub irked former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar. He slammed Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for ignoring match practice. 

Notably, alongside Rohit and Virat, Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya and Mohammed Shami were also rested from the domestic event.
