Ahead of Day 3 of the Duleep Trophy game between India A and India B, KL Rahul, the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) captain in the IPL, walked out for a warm-up session, and a section of the crowd at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru erupted into loud chants of "RCB Captain!"

KL Rahul, one of India's most technically sound batters, has struggled with form and injuries lately. Moreover, during the IPL 2024 season, his relationship with LSG owner Sanjeev Goenka appeared strained after the duo were captured having a heated discussion on the ground.

With the mega auctions approaching ahead of the IPL 2025 season, speculation of Rahul's exit from LSG has been rife for a while. KL Rahul was reportedly approached by RCB as well as the franchise is looking for a change in leadership and potentially move on from Faf du Plessis.

KL Rahul gets love from RCB fans!

Amid this, KL Rahul, currently playing for India A in the ongoing Duleep Trophy tournament, was stepping into the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru for a warm-up session when the crowd erupted in 'RCB Captain' chants.

KL Rahul, who hails from Karnataka and has a significant connection to Bengaluru, initially started his IPL career with the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).

The chants were likely a mix of playful banter and genuine admiration from the local fans, who would love to see a local boy return to lead their beloved franchise.

Moreover, with Virat Kohli stepping down as captain of RCB and Faf du Plessis currently holding the position, there has been constant speculation about future leadership choices.

Sanjeev Goenka Refutes Rumours Of KL Rahul's Sacking

Amid rumours of potential sacking ahead of the mega auctions, LSG owner Sanjeev Goenka referred to KL Rahul as 'family' and indirectly implied that Rahul will stay as LSG captain for the IPL 2025 season.

He is expected to be retained by LSG unless dynamics changes drastically. Notably, KL Rahul joined LSG in 2022 and ended up being the most expensive player of that particular season with a whooping INR 17 crore contract.
