At the recent Open International Masters 2023 Athletics Championship held in Dubai, actor Angad Bedi clinched the gold in the 400-metre race, a victory he has attributed to the memory of his late father, cricket maestro Bishan Singh Bedi.

The cricketing legend, known for his exceptional left-arm spin bowling, passed away at 77 after a long illness, just a week prior to the championship.

In a touching tribute, Angad conveyed that the win held immense emotional significance for him. He mentioned that his father had always inspired him to run, and he had dearly hoped that he would witness his inaugural international race.

"It’s a very emotional moment. I dedicate this sprint to my father. This means a lot. He always wanted me to run and run quick. He saw everything and I really wanted him to see my first international race but… it couldn’t happen. This is for him," said Angad at the Mumbai airport as he arrived in the city after winning the gold medal.

It is worth mentioning that Bishan Singh Bedi, celebrated for his exemplary skills in controlling flight, loop, and spin, often left batsmen puzzled with his subtle variations and adjustments in arm speed and release points.

He had an illustrious career with the Indian team, playing in 67 Test matches from 1967 to 1979. Throughout his Test career, he secured 266 wickets at a commendable average of 28.71 and scored 656 runs. Additionally, his record includes playing in 10 One Day Internationals, where he took seven wickets.
