Lucknow's Ekana Stadium Outfield Under Scrutiny After Livingstone's Injury

In a worrying incident during Match 29 of the ICC World Cup 2023 on Sunday at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow, England all-rounder Liam Livingstone sustained an injury due to the controversial condition of the outfield. The incident has once again ignited concerns over the safety of cricket grounds in India.

Ekana Stadium's outfield under fire following Livingstone injury

Livingstone, in an attempt to clinch a catch from Indian captain Rohit Sharma, ran extensively from deep mid-wicket. However, as he dived forward to complete the catch, the unsettling outfield gave way under the pressure. Consequently, Livingstone's left knee got trapped in the turf, leading to his injury.

This isn't the first time Indian cricket grounds have come under the radar for their outfield conditions. The Dharamsala stadium was previously criticized after several complaints regarding its outfield.

It's worth noting that after the grievances during the Indian Premier League (IPL), the outfield in Ekana Stadium was reportedly re-laid. However, the recent incident suggests that the problems might not have been entirely resolved.

Fans and experts have expressed their concerns over the safety of players. The focus now will be on ensuring that such incidents do not recur, with many suggesting a thorough inspection and revamp of stadium outfields across the nation.

On the cricketing front, India continued their dominant run in the World Cup. Led by exceptional bowling performances from Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah, the hosts thrashed England by 100 runs, leaving the defending champions' hopes of reaching the semi-finals hanging by a thread.

The English team, chasing a target of 230, bundled out for 129 in just 34.5 overs. This marks their fifth defeat in six matches. For India, Rohit was the top scorer with an impressive 87 runs. Though the total of 229-9 seemed to be on the lower side, it was enough to subdue an already beleaguered England.
