Eden Gardens set for spectacle as Kohli's birthday aligns with IND vs SA clash

India's sensational performance in the ICC World Cup 2023 has essentially guaranteed them a place in the semi-finals. With the India-South Africa game slated for November 5, the very day of Kohli’s birthday, Eden Gardens in Kolkata is bracing for a remarkable event.

While speaking to RevSportz, CAB president, Snehasish Ganguly shed light on the plans while ensuring some elements remain shrouded in mystery. He revealed that a specially designed cake with a Kohliesque element will be a part of the celebration. However, fans will need to wait to see its design, as Ganguly wished for it to be a delightful surprise.

“We have ordered a cake for Virat, and the design will be something everyone identifies with Virat Kohli. I am not sharing the pictures yet, for let that be a surprise,” said Ganguly.

In addition, Ganguly has arranged for a magnificent fireworks display during the mid-innings break. This isn't just to honour Kohli but also to envelop the audience in the celebration.

The gesture is CAB's way of acknowledging that every spectator at the Kolkata stadium is essentially a part of this joyous occasion. He expressed confidence in witnessing a packed stadium, emphasising the massive support and fandom Kohli commands.

“Also, we plan to host a fireworks show during the mid-innings interval for Virat and the crowd. It will be our way of celebrating his birthday, and our way of saying that the entire Kolkata crowd are part of the celebrations. We are sure of a full house and everyone in the stands is a Virat fan. It is a gesture on behalf of all of them,” added the 58-year-old.

Furthermore, Ganguly revealed that the CAB has something special up its sleeve for Kohli, the details of which might be revealed in the coming days. Enhancing the festivity, around 70,000 masks bearing Kohli's face are set to be distributed to the fans. A laser show is also on the cards, ensuring a visual treat for the spectators.

The entire celebration will not only mark Kohli's birthday but will also add excitement and colour to the India-South Africa match. This game holds significance as it could potentially determine the group stage leader of the World Cup.

Meanwhile, all eyes will now be on Kohli, as he might be looking forward to setting new records and offering his fans an unforgettable knock as a return gift for their ceaseless support.
