In a notable turn of events Afghanistan Cricket team was spotted by the broadcasters placing a white board with a series of small targets written all over it to approach the chase against Sri Lanka in the ongoing Match 30 of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup at MCA Stadium in Pune.

Earlier, after asking Sri Lanka to bat first, Afghanistan restricted them to a total of 241 on a surface which seemed to be a decent one to bat on. Fazalhaq Farooqi was the pick of the bowlers for Afghanistan as the left-arm seamer took four wickets and gave away just 34 runs in his 10 overs.

On the other hand, Sri Lanka had a decent start with the bat but could not capitalize to give an above par total. While chasing, Afghanistan lost in-form Rahmanullah Gurbaz for a duck but still managed to go through the first powerplay with 50 runs on the board without any further loss of wicket.

Sri Lanka did manage to keep it tight for the Atalans after the powerplay as they failed to score even a single boundary between 10 to 20th over. Additionally, the Lankans managed to remove Ibrahim Zadran and Afghanistan were only 87 for two at the end of the 20th over.

However, just before we got on with the resumption of the action, the Afghanistan team were spotted following percentage cricket inside their sitting area. Afghanistan’s coach Jonathan Trott seems to have prepared a series of small targets in order to approach the overall chase in this game.

In the era of baseball, it was good to see Trott keeping the traditional method of approaching chases alive. Unfortunately, Afghanistan were 13 runs short of the target they had after the end of the 20th over.

At the halfway mark Afghanistan are 119 for 2 with Rahmat Shah and skipper Hashmatullah Shahidi batting on the crease. The duo finished off in style in the last game against Pakistan in Chennai and will be hoping to do the same against the 1996 champions to register their third win of the tournament.

Meanwhile, Sri Lanka will be hoping to get back into the game with a couple of quick wickets before it is too late and get the much needed two points to stay alive in the knockout race.
