The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) devised the entire schedule of the upcoming 2025 Men’s T20 Asia Cup late last month. Much to the surprise of many Indian cricket fans, the schedule included a highly-anticipated India vs Pakistan clash, despite mounting calls for a boycott in the wake of this year’s Pahalgam terror attack.

Amid growing tensions, Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi has requested the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to reconsider facing Pakistan in the tournament, as any match between the two nations would be against “India’s interests”.

Congress Leader Urges BCCI To Follow Prime Minister’s Call

Assam Congress president Gaurav Gogoi has written a letter addressed to BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia, appealing the latter to reconsider India’s planned Asia Cup 2025 fixtures against geopolitical rivals Pakistan. Releasing the same letter to the press, Gogoi stated that any sporting engagement between India and Pakistan in the wake of the Pahalgam terror attack and the resultant ‘Operation Sindoor’ will only go against the nation’s interests.

The prominent Congress politician also reminded the BCCI of BJP veteran and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call of boycotting Pakistan by saying: “water and blood cannot flow together”.

Gaurav Gogoi wrote:

“BCCI should avoid cricketing engagements with Pakistan until conditions are favourable and conducive to the nation’s interest.”

As per the entire 2025 Men’s T20 Asia Cup schedule, Team India will face Pakistan on September 14, i.e., just a few days after facing UAE in their opening match of the tournament at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in Dubai.

Certain to face each other once, India and Pakistan teams can cross paths up to three times in the competition, if they win and qualify for the Super Four round and in the final.
